Сonference “Orient & Occident”: Participant’s names

Today is became known the names of participants of the conference «Orient & Occident: Challenge and Reply» wich will take part during the time of the 2-d International Music Festival Eurasia October 12-13 in 2013.

It is an assistant Professor of faculties liberal arts and Sciences of St. Petersburg state University, Member of the the Union of writers of St. Petersburg, turkologist Apollinaria Avrutina. She is also has been a literary translator from Turkish language. Among her language works are the translations of the books of Orhan Pamuk, Nazim Hikmet, Ahmed Hamdi Tampinar. She is the Laureate of the international competition of translations of turkish poetry «AK Thorne» in 2012.

Associate Professor of music history in Gnesins Academy of music (Moscow), candidate of art criticism, the senior researcher of the state Museum named in honor of M.I. Glinka, a specialist in medieval Islamic music and author of several fundamental works, including the «Poetics of music in Islam. The body, the thing, the ritual» Tamila Jani-zade.

Professor of the St. Petersburg Conservatory, a specialist in the music of Great Britain and expert in compositions of Benjamin Britten Ludmila Kovnatskaya.

The candidate of art history and the senior researcher at St.Peterburg`s Institute of history of arts, author of the books dedicated to the traditions of Znamenny chant and Byzantine Church monody, specialist for the Church musical culture of the Orthodox traditions Irina Chudinova.

Ural Philharmonic Orchestra (UPO)

The Orchestra was founded in 1936 by the young conductor Mark Paverman, succeeded by principal conductors Valentin Kozhin, Andrey Chistyakov and Andrey Boreiko. Dmitry Liss was appointed principal conductor in 1995. Based in Ekaterinburg, the UPO is one of Russia’s leading orchestras: it presents more than 70 programmes annually and gives more than 100 concerts. Its repertoire includes practically all the significant Russian and Western European symphony classics. The Orchestra also performs the works of famous 20th century composers. 18 year old American violinist, Chad Hoopes, has been appearing with numerous ensembles throughout the world since he won the first prize at the Young Artists Division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. His exceptional talent and magnificent tone are acclaimed by critics worldwide. He is a violinist possessing vibrant virtuosity “with an inspiring blend of emotional expression and technical ease” (Press Democrat), and his mastery is described as “way beyond his years” (Press Democrat). Scientific conference “Orient & Occident…” at the Ural Federal University

October 12, 2013 – as part of the Second International Music Festival EURASIA held by the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic the Ural Federal University will host the scientific conference “Orient & Occident: Challenge and Reply”.
The conference will bring together musicians, writers, music critics, art historians and culture experts. At the conference there will be discussed topical issues of the dialogue of cultures East and West in a historical perspective, the problems associated with the existence of the Byzantine Monody.

On October 13, 2013 there will be a roundtable discussion at the Chamber Philharmonic Hall with the participants of the conference.

Along with the conference a special project The Great Silk Road will be presented on stage of the Philharmonic in the frameworks of which Mughamatist’s ensemble from Azerbaijan, Rafael de Utrera and Flamenco cante jondo Ensemble from Spain and Bysantion Choir from Romania will perform.

The chapel of boys and young men was founded in 1979. It is one of the first and oldest groups of Children’s Philharmonic. The chapel continues the tradition of Russian school of choral singing and has unique capabilities of timbre. The group uses a maximum of expressive opportunities, performs works of any complexity, creates out of the ordinary projects and presents to listeners the widest palette of musical styles, genres and forms. The concert program of the Chapel always is built interestingly and dynamically with bright art expressiveness.
